Drive from Missouri to Charlottesville, VA

Not much to report, I got on the road at 7:45 drove 863 miles in14 hour I was surprised to see West Virginia foliage is in a kaleidoscope of fall colors already while neighboring States Kentucky and Virginia are still mostly green.  Guess it must be the higher mountainous terrain causing the earlier fall changing of the leaves?

To help my remaining money I slept in my van at a rest area.  Believe I’m  getting used to pauper accommodations as I slept 8 hours fairly comfortable.

I arrived at Mark’s home late afternoon on the 7th.  Mark, a fellow rider from Bike the US for MS Trans-Am crossing, has graciously volunteered to drive down to Key West with me and then drive my mini-van back to his home.  The
plan is for Mark to meet me southeast of Richmond, Virginia where the Trans-Am and Atlantic coast bicycle routes meet.  Once I reach this intersection my goal to ride diagonally across America from the San Juan Islands to Key West will be accomplished.

Mark and Alice have a beautiful home nestled neatly on a hillside backed up against a forest abounding with wildlife such as deer and black bear which make frequent visits to their yard.  They are blessed to have a nice home where they can enjoy both the tranquility of nature and refines of city culture.  For dinner Mark ordered Chinese take-out.  I had one of the best House Egg Foo Young meals ever.  Mark and I then reviewed the Adventure Cycling maps for the Atlantic Coast one last time to be sure of mileage and date for completing my journey.  We went to bed early as we plan to be up and on the road in the morning by 6:30.
