Hobe Sound – Port St. Lucie a distance of 29 miles
5,054 miles traveled through today, 4,329 of them on my bike.|

Had I known Greg’s home was so close to Hobe Sound I could have kept going yesterday and been able to spend an extra night with a good ole’ buddy from high school.  Greg and I did some crazy shit together in high school but you won’t get to read about them here.  Well OK, I tell you about just one of them.  A week after graduating from high school we
and another friend hopped a plane to Miami, took a cruise ship to the Bahamas where we lived on the beach for a week, ran out of money while there.  On the return ship to Miami we dined, drank and paid for it with one of my checks but I had no money in the account.  Over the course of the next few days we rented a car with a phony ID Greg had and I paid for it with another of my worthless checks.  We even paid for gas and food on the drive back to Crystal Lake with more checks.  I did make good on every check once back in
Crystal Lake.  My guess if we’d try pulling such a shenanigan today we’d be in jail for a few years but alias it was another era.

I used my Maps application on the iPhone to find my way to Greg’s home and it worked.  I’ve not had good success using the maps routes previously.  Greg still looks like Greg even after all these years.  During our day long visit I was surprised to learn he has mellowed
substantially over the past 46 years.   Greg no longer drinks or raises hell instead he has a great outlook on life “You reap what you sew philosophy” treat folks with respect and have a positive outlook and you will have respect and happiness in your life.  Not only does he have a great outlook on life but I admire his dedication and show of love to his four year old granddaughter he is raising while her mother deals with a medical problem.  Greg I’m humbled and respect the man you have become it’s awesome.

Greg treated me to lunch at a local Bar and Grill where we enjoyed some mighty tasty
fish.  If that wasn’t enough for dinner he prepared us “Surf and Turf” a filet mignon which he had marinated in a secret sauce all day and lobster tail and fresh steamer asparagus.  Oh My Goodness!  I haven’t eaten a lobster tail since I can’t remember when, it was so gooood.  The filet was full of flavor, juicy and melt in your mouth tender.  My favorite veggie is asparagus, too.  What a meal!  After dinner Greg and I continued catching up on each other’s life.  During our visit I phoned Jim Boss another  1965 CLCHS classmate who lives in Clearwater Florida.  Jim is going to drive over to Vero Beach tomorrow for a visit.  Greg had been friends with Jim in high school but had lost touch with him over the years.  He didn’t know Jim lived here in Florida.  It’s going to be a double treat meeting up with Jim tomorrow as he and Greg will be able to reconnect as well as my being able to have two old friends join me on my adventure for a day.  Today has been great tomorrow will
be even greater. Thank you, Greg for a fantastic day!
