October 2 Crossing America

Bath, NC – Edenton, NC a distance of 63 hard miles thanks to the wind.
Total distance traveled through today 6,220 miles, on my bike for 5,152 of
them.

Before going to bed Cindy said she would make breakfast for me in the morning until I told her what time I planned to get on the road.  She said, “Oh, that’s early and I normally sleep in a little later as I have to get up quite early during the week for my job.  I’ll leave the fixins for breakfast out and you will have to cook for yourself”.  Turns out she was joking with me as when I walked out of the bedroom
both she and John were in the kitchen.   Cindy had a rather large stack of waffles and bacon already cooked up waiting for me.  Thank you Cindy that was very kind of you.  I shared with John and Cindy how special yesterday was for me spiritually and was thankful God brought us into each other lives.  After breakfast they accompanied me outside and Brenan their youngest son took a picture of us before we said our final goodbyes.  Again I have no doubt God brought them into my life as testimony to his being.  Thank you John and Cindy for being very special friends as you were sent by God to help me on this journey.

I thought yesterday was chilly today I froze the temperature was about 10 degrees cooler.  My fingertips, ears, toes and nose all were cold partially from the wind chill
effect of riding.  When I stopped to warm up, the sweat I generated having to ride 51 of today’s ride directly into a 15 mph wind with gusts much higher.  Truly all I could do was put my head down and grunt it out.  My mind was still in another place thinking about all that transpired in my life yesterday.  I’m still in awe of God removing any doubt from my mind he does exist.

Since yesterday’s post was lengthy I held some of the pictures I took to post them in today’s journal as there isn’t much to tell you about today’s ride.  I did see more
cotton fields today then any previous day and the farmers have begun harvesting
it.  There are still many pine forest farms, too. For a good part of the day the back roads I traveled were lined on both sides with thick forest which kept the road shady most of the day and another reason I was unable to warm up.  Not much traffic either I’m guessing not a dozen vehicles passed me the first 30 miles today.

I arrived in Edenton about 3:00 PM cold and exhausted.  I wasn’t able to contact anyone at the fire department as it is a volunteer department.  Since I was close to three motels I checked prices and decided to stay at the Coach House Inn.  Mr.  Patel the owner said times were difficult and he could not afford to provide a room free though he would like too.  He did offer a $35.00 rate including taxes compared to his regular rate of $55.00 which I will add was considerably less than other two motels I checked.  Mr. Patel I’m pleased to report is taking good care of his motel and it is a bargain for those of you on a tight budget like mine.  Here is the information you need if and when you are in this area: Coach House Inn, 823 N. Broad Street (One block east of the intersection of US Bus.17 and Hwy. 32),  Edenton, NC 27932.  Phone 252-482-2107.

Here are the pictures carried over from yesterday.

    Frank,

    Keep on biking!

I have sent an e-mail response to Pastor Rust. It took two tries, as I had an old address the first time. I sent copy to your e-mail site.
Sorry to say, this is one of our ELCA churches.

Hi Gene, I chalked it up as he’s a human and we all have our bad days.
